Question:

International adoption questions...

I plan on adopting a child/children when I am older and am wondering what countries are the worse off as far as orphanages, I would assume africa? Where in africa are children most in need, I wonder?

I've been thinking about it today because I watched this show on TLC about a little african boy who came to america for an operation (His head was severely disformed). when he came back to africa (Uganda, I think?) he was saying that he wanted to go back to america and become a mechanic and never wanted to live in africa again and would only come back to check on his parents (He was so sweet...).

He really touched my heart, who knows if he will ever get that chance?

Also what are your opinions on international adoption?

It seems to me that there are children in much more URGENT need in places other than america? Maybe I am making assumptions...

Anyways, I'm only 15 so that will be in a very long time...

Thanks for taking the time to read this long question/ramble!

  1. If your going to adopt later, then the info today wont be relevant because the world is a constantly changing place.

I hope too you will mainly focus on gaining a family member instead of "helping a needy child" etc...

That being said, in some places homes are needed for boys and for waiting children meaning they have a special need that can be a minor issue to something that will require lifelong care.

International adoption is not for the faint of heart either.

If you plan to do it later, I would get as much adoption education as possible, starting today.

  2. The first poster is right.  The laws regarding international adoption changes overnight.  What is the process today, will probably be different by the time you are old enough to consider adoption.

A great educational site is Informed Adoption Advocates

    www.informedadoptions.com

    Good luck.
