  1. Obviously the experience described above talks about one of many terrible programs that most people dont care to explore further before signing up. Also many want to pay so little that is all they get for their money.

This program www.beautifulspain.com not only has the highest standards for a very reasonable cost (when you sign up directly with them. If through one of the organizations that buy it to sell it later almost doubles in price) their host families are carefully screened and the kids learn and have the greatest time... AND returning kids are raving about their experience and many are returnees from prior year. So this is the proof there is no program like this. This culture and language program has been successfully running for 22 years. On top of that you can choose from the wonderful host families available based on a description and your interests thanks to the individual attention provided by the program director. This is a great fit. And more, you can choose to sign up with a friend with whom to stay with or you can choose to stay in different host family homes.

You don´t need to know more than 2 years in Spanish, actually they even count on a class for those that never took any Spanish before. You will still improve especially while at living with a kind and caring host family.

Living in a residence (more limited curfew than at host family home) can be as crappy as a bad host family with the result that you will not learn about Spanish language, culture and lifestyle.

This programs offers included in one single price many fun and exciting activities such as: Tallship vessel tour, paella dinnner, Roman Route hiking trip, cooking and dancing classes, fireworks on the beach, city tour, medieval towns, fishing village, bullfight, many beach days, beach volley, Guggenheim museum, canoeing trip down the river, shopping days.... and much more.

Location can´t be beat, right on the beach resort and one of safest places in Europe with no crime rate.

    Dont miss it!

  2. You will probably have a better time living with other students.  I remember 1 or 2 kids that did have a great stay with their host family.  Most of the guys I knew that stayed with families were not happy - the families did it purely for the money, they provided c**p food and showed no interest in the students.  I (and most everyone else) had a great time living with random students from all over the place.

You will become semi-fluent after a semester, if you go to class and actively meet locals and try to learn spanish.
