Can someone please help me! My husband is in Italy and has an international cell phone. i have the correct number and i have tried calling numerous times. the problem is whenever i call for some reason it doesnt work! i bought two different calling cards and they dont help at all. when i use my house phone i get some options of either using a credit card, calling card, or having the payment billed to my phone. i have tried all three but neither of them work. is it because of my home phone service provider? i have also tried this on my cell phone but it doesnt work because i dont have international calling. i called the operator and it still didnt work. i just dont understand it and it makes me very upset. i would greatly appreciate any help. i have tried using a payphone but i guess i dont know what i am doing because that also did not work. lol gosh i really have tried everything, this is my last hope. someone please help me. THANK YOU

  1. You may need the country code i think Italy is 0031 not sure that is the code check it out

  2. I just returned from Italy and had lots of phone problems.  I had an Italian Sim card, but my cell phone was not unlocked, I guess, so I couldn't use it.  When using my US sim card, I had to dial 001-area code and number to call the US, but just 39 plus the number to call in Italy.  If calling from the US to an Italian number, you must dial 011-39-then the number.  Have you tried calling his US number instead of the local (Italian)  number?  I found email much easier.

  3. If you don't have international calling on your phone, it's not surprising you can't call an Italian cell phone directly, although any calling card that permits international dialing should work.

To use the phone card you call an 800 access number printed on the card, then dial the access number, then the phone number. Italian mobile numbers would be 011 39 3xxxxxxx. Any chance you're dialing the number wrong?  In particular, they may show you 0039 but here in the US to call Italy it's 011 39.

  4. try to call Telecom Italia at 176

  5. You should try texting it should not be any different in charges.

  6. Are you sure his phone is set up for the country he is in? There are different protocols for different parts of the world and his phone must be "unlocked" to receive your calls. Call HIS cell phone provider to make sure the problem is not on his end.

I'm going to Italy Sunday and will let you know if this works as I spentan hour with T-Mobile to get my phone unlocked (they lock them so you can't easily switch vendors!)

    ciao
