Liverpool skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonjo-Shelvey-c19081 get an international call up for England’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
The Reds youngster was included in the Three Lions 24-man contingent, following an injury to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 during Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Norwich City at the weekend.
The ongoing season has been a break-through one for the English International, who just managed to make 16 appearances for Liverpool in the previous campaign.
However, working under the new management of Brendan Rodgers has seen him get promoted up the pecking order. He is now being more involved in first-team action, and has already represented the Reds in 9 games this campaign.
Nonetheless, the Three Lions skipper believes that the midfielder’s inclusion in the national squad was an indication of how much he has improved over the last couple of months.
He stated that Shelvey had a good eye for the ball and can also contribute in the frontline because of his attack-minded playing style.
“He has been improving all the time since he arrived at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and has grown into a good footballer with good vision who can create and score goals,” he told the reporters.
“He also listens which means he will only get better with more games and experience.”
The 20-year old, who started his club career at Charlton Athletic, was signed by the Anfield outfit in May 2010 for a 1.7 million pounds transfer fee.
He has represented http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 at the Under 16, 17, 19 and 21 levels, but is yet to make his debut for the senior team.
Gerrard had no qualms that the midfielder will be able to fill in the void of the injured Frank Lampard.
He also believed that international exposure will do loads of good to the player’s confidence, and remained hopeful that it would also help him do well for Liverpool in the future.
“Jonjo is playing with confidence at the moment and is in good form. This experience of being in the full England squad will be great for him and hopefully Liverpool will benefit from it as well,” he added.
Shelvey has made 101 professional club appearances and has also got 19 goals to his name.
