International friendly: England v Hungary half time report
England 0 Hungary 0
England have offered their supporters some hope in their first match since their dismal World Cup exit, but the Three Lions have been unable to break down a stubborn Hungary at Wembley.
Wayne Rooney had the ball in the net within three minutes of kick off, but the forward was marginally offside from Steven Gerrard’s through ball, before Phil Jagielka poked an effort into the side-netting after a corner wasn’t cleared.
Fabio Capello’s men have shown far more fluidity and skill than they did in the summer, and Adam Johnson has missed the hosts’ best chance, blazing an effort over the crossbar after good work from the right flank pair of Glen Johnson and Theo Walcott. Impressive skipper Gerrard just failed to connect with a Frank Lampard pass, and later saw a free kick turned over by Hungarian goalkeeper Gábor Király.
Hungary have barely threatened, although winger Balázs Dzsudzsák has seen two efforts deflected wide.
The jeers that were widely expected for England haven’t been as vociferous as many imagined, although some supporters chose to boo the team off at half time.
