International snooker returns to Scotland with World Snooker European Tour
Snooker fans across the world witnessed a tremendous finish to the previous snooker season right after the end of the 2012 World Snooker Championship where the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan was the eventual winner.
The new snooker season started with tremendous clashes in the Asian Players Tour Championship (APTC) followed by the first major ranking snooker event of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event.
The snooker governing body across the globe, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) announced the addition of new snooker events in the new snooker season which is considered a good initiative to promote the game around the world. Right
now, the World Snooker European Tour is underway where events will be launched in the whole Europe.
In one of its visits, the World Snooker European Tour will be heading to Scotland after a two year absence. The tour will commence the 2012 Scottish Open snooker tournament, a part of the European Players Tour Championship (EPTC). The event will be held
at Ravenscraig arena from December 14 to 16 featuring all top guns of the game under one roof.
The internationally renowned betting websites, Betfair, is sponsoring the European Tour and hopes that the event will be a success across the continent.
Speaking to World Snooker, International Director at Betfair, Matt Robinson said, “We are delighted to add World Snooker's new European Tour to our sponsorship portfolio. The tour visits some key European markets so it's a great way to raise awareness for
our brand. We're excited to support a game which attracts fans both old and new.”
Meanwhile, the four-time World Snooker Championship winner from Scotland, John Higgins discussed the return of the tour to his country and said, “Scotland deserves to have its own tournament so it's brilliant news that we will have an event here. Hopefully
it will be a stepping stone to something bigger. I hope the crowds will come out and enjoy it.”
The European Tour will definitely play its part in promoting the game across the world. The players from around the world will be anxiously waiting for the contest to start. There will be six tournaments in the tour starting from Paul Hunter Classic in Furth,
Germany from August 23.
