Internet Connection help - speed test

Question

Hey there,

for the past year or so i have been with tiscali, i am a complete beginner on computers really and I am not impressed with them at all. I download music everyday, and i also download torrents.

But my internet connection is absolutely appauling with tiscali at some parts of the day, I know they traffic the connections, although sometimes my internet will not work at all. Its 23:57, and i have just took a speed test,

Download Speed :1299Kb/s

Upload speed:177Kb/s

Ping: 151

Please could you suggest what could be wrong?

I am using a d-link wireless router, but i am using the WLAN blue cable to connect to my internet because my wireless dongle broke. My internet is supposedly a 2mb connection.

Trust me your internet is in way better shape than mine. No you bought a package that says up to 2MB... Well maybe there lines have not been upgraded that far? up to means you can WHEN POSSIBLE but it doesn't mean constant

I would advise going to a different ISP as Tiscali perform very poorly compared to the rest of the market.

Wonderring what the speed of your router might be ?

If it's less than the 2mb you're being supplied, then you're not getting it all !!!

If you are looking for good broadband speed and deals it might be worth getting sky tv, if you get sky tv, you can get their phone package and broadband package.

Its cheap and really good,ive just done a speed test at www.speedtest.net and this is my result

upload 646 kb/s

If you go to www.sky.com you will see their prices and range of tv, phone and broadband

I know it might be a pain to swap everything but its well worth it, what sky dont tell many people is they make a loss on their phone and broadband packages which is why they are so cheap.

They make all their money on the tv side of it

For £10 a month i get upto 16meg broadband with no download limits,its well worth looking at if your an internet junkie.
