Internet Speed for PS3 online gaming?

I want to play online with my PS3, but I only have a dialup connection right now. I'm going to get highspeed internet, but there are so many different download speeds: 5mbps, 10mbps, 15mpbs... I want to get the cheapest one possible that is still capable of lag free online gaming. Is the 5mbps speed enough? Because I don't want to pay $15 extra/month for the 10mbps.

i don't know the exact speed of my connection but its fast enough. i use verizon fios and an ethernet cable to connect my ps3 to the net.

5mbps will be fine. You can't alway get a lag free game because other people may slow things down but you will have done all you can to limit lag on your end.

Don't worry, 5mbps is more than enough for gaming.
