  1. You cell phone has to be equiped for international calls.  Call who ever you have service with and ask them if your phone is a phone that can make and accept international phones.  Your phone will not work out in the middle of the sea but it will work when docked.  You computers will work and they have a internet cafe you have to use for internet.  You can use your own computer or use theirs but there is a fee.  It's like 7.50 fee for the initial set up and then 75cents a minute after that.

  2. Not sure about the cell phone thing, but I doubt it.  As far as internet... They have it but they charge by the minute (at least my cruise did) and it is very expensive.  Personally I'd rather have stomach surgery than go on another cruise.

  3. I know that Verizon came in crystal clear from St. Thomas in the Caribbean, but I'm not sure about LA to Baja.  I guess it depends upon where the signals are located.

  4. We went on Carnival to the Baja in January of this year.  Cell phone use is pretty much non-existent on the ship.  You can get signal but your calls may not go through.  Also it's about $2 per minute if you do get through.  You can get signal in Mexico, but it's full of noise and static and again very expensive per minute.   There are phones in your room but they cost $7 per minute, so I wouldn't use it unless it's an emergency.  Check with your cell phone provider as they may have a special card you can buy cheaper minutes from Mexico.  I heard another couple talking about having one on our cruise.

Internet signal is pretty much confined to the "internet cafe" on the ship.  You can use it all you want, buy you must pay by the minute.  I'm not sure how much it is but it's not cheap either.  I think $2 per minute.

We had a wonderful time on our cruise and I'd do it again today.  Have fun, relax and enjoy!!!

  5. So far only if you have satellite phone coverage. If you have international it will work while in some ports.

There have been some ships that have wireless channels but they still use satellite and it is expensive.

Why would you want outside contact on a cruise ship????

  6. As a cruise specialist I know that several of the cruise lines are adding cell phone and wireless internet to their ships. The best thing to do is before you sail is check with your travel agent to see if the ship you will be on offers this. Most ships have ship to shore phone service and even a number you can give your friends and family where they can call you on the ship, but there is a charge and it is really not very cheap. Same is true for the internet, most ship have a  24 hours internet cafe, but charge $.50 and up per min.
