Question:

Internet and social skills?

Has your use of the internet limited or altered your "real people" social life? I have been a heavy internet user for about 5 years and I noticed today when I wanted to go see 'Dark Knight' that the closest friend I had lived 300 miles away (internet friend). The last boyfriend I had was from the internet and he lived 700 miles away.

How do I get back into the "real" world? I think I have lost the ability to communicate with people face to face. Eek!

  1. It's actually helped me a bit b/c I can warm up to people slowly sometimes - like thru text messages or emails.  If they are receptive, it gives me more confidence to interact with them face-to-face.

  2. Well Misty, I think you keep your friends on line, however, I recommend that you start a class. Dancing, painting, a book club, a volunteer program, acting, horseback riding, yoga.....and so on.

Once you start doing things outside the house, you will automatically meet new people and you wont be online so much.

I hope I gave you some ideas and that you find something that suits your personality and interests.

  3. get off the computer and go outside into the real world !!!!

  4. I'm the opposite as you...

to communicate with others in the real world,

find something interesting about them and find common ground to relate to. IOW  ask them what they like doing and spark a conversation about something they say.
