Question:

Internet browsing on a Playstation 3?

I just picked up a PS3, specifically for playing Blu-Ray movies, but I noticed it had a Wi-Fi option for Internet surfing. It sounded pretty cool to me, so I clicked on it and went to http://www.hulu.com to see some videos. Turns out that nothing would play without flash player, and no download link on the flash website would work. So, I went to do some instant viewing on my netflix account. Turns out the Netflix viewer won't install on the PS3 either.

What good is this hunk of hardware for web browsing if the most popular and mainstream media sites don't function at all with the built in browser? What browser is it anyway? Can I get these sites to work with it? Is there some trick I'm overlooking?

  1. well, youtube works on it...

  2. The problem is that the PS3 browser has an older version of Flash Player that doesn't work on the websites you mention. You cannot download an updated version of the player, as these are intended for PC/Mac browsers, not PS3. You'll have to wait for an update from Sony...

  3. It uses Netfront browser, its designed for mobiles, and there currently is a large outcry for a mainstream browser like FF, or Opera( which ht Wii uses)

Becuase it is not a PC it cannot use the cfurrent version of Flash, only the latest version ( which the code is released, so Dony can convert it to use on the PS3)

Sony did introduce a video store last month(US only) so you can use that.

The interent browser is only a extra add-on to the PS3, so if it isnt all singing all dancing, it shouldnt matter, 360 doesnt have one at all.

And if your mainly using it as a Blu-Ray palyer ,the internet is only used for that to play extra content on BD 2.0 discs.
