Working for a non-profit, the hardware in question is a DSL modem, Lynksys router, Cisco Switch and about 12 PC's of which only about 2 or 3 are ever accessing the web. On nearly a daily basis - sometimes more - the connection fails. Have found it necessary to reset DSL modem with success. Also replaced router at that time. Rebooting switch resolved remaining problems - all was online. Next afternoon and for the next 2 weeks the connection was up and down. Replace the router as I was unable to connect from PC to PC. Same problem for the last few weeks. Sometimes rebooting works, sometimes only some come back. Have cloned MAC address also but have not been able to 100% resolve this issue. Nothing or my side has been altered. Have even bypassed the switch with a 16 port hub without success. They are nearly as frustrated as I am so any help is appreciated!

  1. I use DSL myself and most of the problems seem to emerge from the ISP's end. Either the modem links are down or there's an adapter failure in my neighborhood... Try clearing you cache often; the problem could be DNS related.

I also suggest switching to a cable internet provider, or at least having a backup internet access. DSL is fairly reliable, but troubleshooting takes up most of my time. It really depends on the quality of your ISP and the turnaround time they provide to resolve issues. Hope this helps a bit!
