Question:

Internet connection from 1 modem to 2 computers?

I have only 1 internet modem. I want to split the internet connection into 2 computers and have both computers use the internet connection at the same time. I have looked around, and the 350MHz CAT5E RJ45 Male to 2 Female Splitter Cable works for that, BUT with only 1 computer at a time can be online, both can not. Are there any other options?

Thanks in advance!

  1. You can not do this with a modem. You need to install a router to use more than one computer on the connection.

  2. hook a router to your modem. that's how hubby and i share the internet so he can play online ps2 while im on the internet!

  3. Not sure if you are using "dial-up" or "Cable" connections.

If you are connected through the cable company it's easy. Get a router and connect both computers and the cable modem to it and you will be able to have both computers on-line at the same time.

If you are using dial-up connection you will need to get a second phone line and set up a family account with your internet provider.
