  1. You can't get 800 mbps through a wifi connection.  If that ever happens in the future, wired networks will probably disappear.

You will have to run a line.  Even if you get two wifi cards and use software to manage them, that'll only double your speed for some cases.

Even that bridges that are created through electrical lines in the house will be slow.  Your only option is the ethernet cable.

BUT...you don't really need that much speed for online games.  You will only need it for downloading stuff from the internet.  For online gaming, your ping is more important, which is an indication of how fast the computer and server are talking to each other.  The 800 mbps is like a Formula 1 race car, but it isn't needed if your work and home is separated by only one freeway exit.  Your car won't go as fast, but it'll be fast enough to get the job done.

  2. I doubt if he has 800 mbps, a T3 is only 43 mbps, and that costs arounf $3000 usd a month.  Your 54 mpbs is probably still more bandwidth than the WAN connection you are using.

  3. Both of those speeds are wrong. You actually are only getting around 5mbps and so is your dad. There is no internet connection on this planet that gives internet at 800mbps which is available to anyone. The 54mbps thing its showing is actually the transfer rate from your computer to the router and NOT to the internet. You and him have the same speed connection and the only way to go faster is to upgrade the speed.

    *mbps = mega-bits per second

Edit: I noticed that you edited the question a bit however you are getting an internet connection at the same speed as your dad and getting another router upstairs will do almost nothing if anything at all. What you really need to check is your siginal strength, if its got full bars or maybe just 1 away from full then you are fine but if you got maybe 1/5 bars or something then a router in your room is defiantly needed to increase preformance

  4. WiFi. Get a USB card for 20-50  bucks. WalMart, Target, or some other place.
