Hello,

Can you tell me why my laptop disconnects from the Internet when someone answers the phone? We have Yahoo DSL. This only happens on our laptop and not on the desktop. Thank you for your time.

  1. hmm....that may be a little tricky to solve

you said its DSL.  Does it have to go through any Modem cables that have ANYTHING to do with the phone line?  and are you 100% sure its not a dialup connection?

  2. laptop using wifi?

cordless phone a 2.4 ghz phone?

if changing the phone to a 5.8 ghz or DECT phone is not an option, then you can move the router and phone further apart from eachother and change the channel the router connects to.

to change the router channel log into the router web interface http://192.168.1.1 is the normal location most default user name and passwords are admin/admin, admin/password, (blank)/admin check your user manual for the user id and password if one of these dosent work, or check online for the default for your brand and model router..

if the ip address i gave dosent bring up the browser log in page then go to start>run (or start>search in vista) and type in cmd then hit enter..

at the command prompt type in "ipconfig" with out the quotes, and hit enter... type the ip address of the default gateway into your web browser, that will get you to the router log in page..

search the settings for the channel that the wifi operates on, and change the channel if operates on, this should reduce the chances of the problem re-occurring
