Question:

Internet keeps disconnecting?

My internet keeps on disconnecting, for no apparent reason. It sometimes disconnects within seconds of me starting a connection, it sometimes takes hours, and other times it doesn't even let me connect to the internet. Also, it connects me at a speed half of what my connection is capable of sometimes aswell.

I ran an AVG virus scan today, and this problem has been going on for about 4 days now, so its not a virus or spyware. I tried disabling firewall, but that doesn't make any difference. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my connection, and any solutions if you can?

my specs:

BT voyager 105 ADSL USB modem

8 MBPS AOL broadband

  1. 1)      DROP AO-h**l and go with ATT ( or you local DSL service)

    2) check you logs on the dsl box. some have a dsl-checks on what is wrong (2wire).

    3) Check your filters and wire

your problem is not in the computer but from the computer to the isp

Have you ran AVG in safe mode? Generally it can scan more in safe mode than in normal mode.

  2. This can sometimes happen with broadband. When you connect you are dynamically assigned an IP address. Sometimes if this address is already taken  (yes, it can happen) your connection will flip out as long as there is this conflict. It will kick you when the other computer tries to do certain things on the internet. The easiest way to fix this (if this is indeed the problem) is the leave your modem unplugged for about 8-12 hours. When you plug it back in you will have been off long enough to get a new IP assigned to you.

If you don't feel like calling your provider, give this a try tonight, don't need the modem while you are sleeping right? (unless you are torrenting, but that can take a break for a while)

  3. Have you called your provider? If your computer is otherwise fine, it might be them having issues and not you.

We get it now and then with Comcast. Also one time when we were having bad issues with it staying connected someone finally came out and took a look at something on the outside of the house that connects it and found that it (whatever it was, something to do with the internet) needed to be replaced. So if your provider claims to be fine, look into every option of what it could be.

  4. It's your provider or your ethernet plug. Call your internet provider and ask them if the problem is with them.
