  1. You've done a good job trying to sort out where the trouble is. You are now left with modem or phone line.

Phone lines in older areas can have intermittent faults, where the signal is not perfect. This could be enough to throw out a modem  connection....which might be okay when the ISP checks it. Ask the phone service provider to check on this.

It can as easily be the modem, and the likeliest problem is overheating, which is why it would work fine for half an hour to an hour. Make sure it is clean, off the floor, and has some ventilation.

As a last step, replace the cable that goes from the modem to your computer. Borrow one, for a start, then buy one if it makes an improvement

If still no difference, try swapping modems for a few hours with a friend. If your setup works with his modem, and his stops after an hour with yours, that is a 100% sure diagnosis that the modem is at fault.

If it is supplied by the ISP, and/or is still under warranty, get them to send someone out to change it for you, for free. If it is one you bought, or the warranty is expired, get a new one.
