  1. We have a simple and straightforward way of using an internet phone, Georgio.

Vonage works just like a traditional phone service, except phone calls are made through your broadband connection and not over a traditional phone line. You make phone calls just as you normally would, just pick up your existing touch tone phone, dial any landline or mobile number globally and speak to friends as you usually do - from your home phone to their home phone or mobile!

You do need broadband for Vonage to work. But - and this is the great thing - your computer doesn't even need to be switched on. Check out our website at http://www.vonage.co.uk/how-does-vonage-... for full details.

  2. Download SKYPE, excellent program

  3. get a web cam and use yahoo messenger. Skype is good too.

  4. Yahoo Messenger, it's free.

  5. Buy a wireless skype phone and get a technical friend to set it up for you.

Once it has been set up it is a doddle to use. Almost like a normal phone.

  6. use skype wireless or use use Vonage

  7. The easiest way to make voice calls over Internet, PC-to-PC with family and friends, is to use Google Talk.  No money required for PC-PC calls and it is very easy to use... and, the voice quality is surprisingly good.  And, it is FREE.

To make FREE PC-to-phone calls, try the new EarthCaller, which is currently in beta (still under development).  With Earth Caller you talk just using your IE7 browser.

Skype is always a good option too - it is Free PC-PC, but it's not free for PC-to-phone... but it is low cost.

Efonica, Gizmo5, and VBuzzer are also good low cost PC-Phone options that also allow Free PC-PC calling.

But which ever VoIP service you use, you will need a headset with microphone.  Headsets are handy when working on the PC and talking at same time.

    ------------------------------

When I talk about Free services, I mean truely Free.... not Free for $20 - $30/month type of free...

When I say free, ... I mean.... No Money.... at all... at anytime....

  8. You can use Skype or other free VoIP software to make computer to computer calls.

You can also use the aforementioned to make computer to landline or cell phone calls, but this may require that you purchase calling time/plans to do so. The monthly fee is usually not to high for domestic calling, but it can be expensive if you plan on calling an international number.

However, you can purchase an international phone card and use it with Skype or another VoIP solution and save money. For phone cards, just search your favorit search engine, and the Top 10 providers are generally worth comparing.

I'll list a few favorites for you below, including a VoIP  alternative.

    Good luck!

  9. Well it will depend on which country you are in, my service provider in the UK has its own voip network in the USA, and it is being launched in Europe later this year.

What is good about this system is that it does not need to go through a computer, and you can call normal land line and mobile/cell phones.

In the US all calls in the USA, Canada,Puerto Rico and Hawaii are free, and I expect a similar deal here in Europe.

  10. If it's just you down load Skype and go for it. Voice quality is flaky but it's free (Skype to Skype). If you want more control, more lines, voice mail, routing ... look into open source VoIP PBX software such as Asterisk.
