Internet poker may become a reality in the state of California
The state of California is currently contemplating a move that would possibly lighten its huge budget deficit by legalising online gambling.
The deficit that the state of California is experiencing amounts to a staggering figure of $15.4 billion. In hopes to lessen the burden this huge amount has on its economy, California may just legalise internet poker. Despite the criticality of the issue,
there is a group that does not support the idea of finding a solution of alleviating the deficit through making internet poker legal.
Gambling is not new to the state of California. It already has poker parlours that are operational. Not only that, horse racing is also done in the state enthusiastically. The sport has become inextricably linked with gambling and fans do not miss a chance
to make some money by betting on the horse they think would win a meet.
Apart from poker parlours and horse racing, lottery is another thing that has found its niche in the state of California. Later on, slot machines also found their way into the gambling business that had gradually been growing strong in the state.
Majorly because of the power and influence the gambling industry of the state holds now, it is not improbable that the state California sees to it that internet poker becomes a legality in the near future. However, there are some things that need to be taken
into consideration, as the opposers of the proposal point out.
Internet poker is not legal under the federal law. However, some of the states, including California, are of the opinion that it is permissible for states to hold internet poker operations if they are being monitored and taxed.
The two senators in Sacramento that are trying to get the internet poker bill passed are Sen. Rod Wright and   Sen. Lou Correa. However, both of them are working on two separate bills. By the looks of it, it seems as if the bill that Wright is fighting for
will be more beneficial to the stakeholders rather than that of Correa.
What remains to be seen is what bill is able to see the light of day and whether the gambling industry or the people of the state would be the beneficiaries.
