Internet problems with allowing Source Dedicated server to run a server and allow people on.

everytime i try and run a source dedicated server, it comes up with my ip address, and it shouldn't do. my friend said that i should plug my pc into the Modem..but i have a modem/router. anyone help?

I'm not sure what your problem is. But any time you set up a server that needs to be accessed from outside you need to forward the port to your application. This is a setting in your firewall.
