Internet problems with "VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter"?

My internet keeps stopping working like every 5 minutes -- I'm using wireless internet from another computer in my house. When I try to see what the problem is, I see that it says the VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter is unplugged, but as far as I know there's nothing to be plugged in! What is a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter? If it's something physical, what does it look like? If not, what do I do!?! Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Where does it say that VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter is unplugged? On your computer or the other computer? If it says on the other computer, either the DSL/Cable network actually snaps (Try working on the main computer for some time, if the net works fine on that computer, then problem is either with the W/L network: Improper settings or weak signals or at your end. However if the net is not coming to the first computer, how can it relay to yours? I had a similar problem where my net kept going out, I checked & double checked the ethernet drivers, got a new ethernet card but still the same problem. Ultimately I found out that there was H/W failure of the order that the A/C to D/C adapter of the DSL modem was plugged loose & sparking resulted in the lost connection...

  2. the VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter is a Ethernet adapter for internet. the ethernet adapter requires a physical wire similar to the one of the phone but more thicker and the end is a bit bigger. It requires it to be connected to a Modem a router or a wireless router. when it's not connected correctly it shows that something is not plugged in.

But you mentioned that you're current setup is wireless internet. so the Ethernet adapter is not your problem. it seems like the problem is with your wireless router or your wireless adapter.

Edit: Oops, read wrong. Make sure that your wireless router is on. check if the ethernet cable is properly connected. on both ends your computer end and the router end.
