Internet scams?

has anyone fallen for any internet/e-mail scams or know of anyone who has? How can people be so stupid?

some scams are so obvious that many people avoid them

but others are very clever and can sucker you in my advice is if it sounds too good to be true then it is and if they have contacted you with out contact from you to them prior to this then avoid avoid avoid

its the same with mail scams but its just a different form of getting you

I tried signing up for some of those internet scams one time just to see what would happen. I was smart about it though. I set up a new email account to use just for that. I set up the account, then went online and signed up for any offer I could find that didn't require personal information (first name and email address is all I gave out).

After about 20 minutes of signing up for random offers, I went to check the email account. I already had 1500 spam emails in my inbox. 1500 emails in 20 minutes!!!

My favorite example of stupid people is when people ignore common sense because they see a good deal. Just yesterday I got best answer because someone was going to buy a jet ski on craigslist, but the person claimed to be deaf and claimed to have moved and wanted to do the whole transaction with paypal. The person knew it was fishy but the fact that the jet ski was selling for half of its actual value meant she was actually considering falling for the deal.

I also heard of a scam where someone responded to an ad on craigslist. The person gave them a story about getting divorced and all they wanted for their house (worth $300,000) was the $8,000 they needed to get out of their loan. So the sucker paid the $8,000 (cash) and moved into the fully furnished house. A week later the real owners came home from vacation. The idiot was out $8,000 and in legal trouble for trespassing.

Stupid people get even stupider when you offer them something that seems like a good deal.
