OK, is it safe to purchase something online from a secure website at an internet cafe (ie an open connection with wifi) or does the fact that its an "open connection" mean other people can get into the transaction even though its through a SECURE website on an open connection? thanks

  1. The site may be secure, but you're right that there are possible security risks if you use a shared computer such as one in an Internet cafe. The main risk is that personal details such as account login details and credit card numbers could be stored after you've finished and accessed by the next user. For example, when you log into most email accounts, you're advised to uncheck the tick in the 'remember me' box before logging in or your user ID and password will be stored.

So I'd highly recommend that you carry out your purchase on your home pc or one belonging to a friend you can trust.

  2. Its best not to use an internet cafe for that sort of thing as you dont know what might br going on behind the scenes. I would use my own connection or a friends or relatives.

  3. I personally would never send, store or receive sensitive information over the Internet. Although you may spend Lot's of money on Security for your computer they are still hackable. The more user friendly we make our Security Suite's the easier they are to break into. Because your at  Internet Cafe there is a possibility the security has already been compromised. I don't know if it's a popular Internet Cafe but the more people there the more people S/He can try and steal information.

  4. I prefer not to use locations like that for buying online.  I always change any passwords that I use after using any of the cafes as a precaution.

    My 2 cents

  5. I would not use any, if I could purchase it in person but that's not always the way, I do agree that an Internet cafe is not the place there are ppl out there that make a living by scamming ppl and there's no way of stopping them at the moment.

  6. depends and the security on the computer not connection.

  7. I don't  encourage online purchases unless you can't get that thing elsewhere. Also use a security suite. When buying online better at the safety of your home & not wireless since its easy to tap in.

  8. Don't ever put sensitive data on a machine in an Internet cafe, the connection is the least of your worries, everything that you input could be saved on the machine for somebody to look at later.
