How would I go about running the internet through my computer from my modem, then into my router for my xbox 360? If I am not able to go to router then how would I just go from modem to to computer then to xbox 360? I have an SMC router with USB and Ethernet connectivity.

  1. Routers normally would be connected to the MODEM first then all computers, xbox, etc connect to the router. Like so

Modem ---->Internet/Wan port of router --->LAN ports to all items locally.

Once setup, routers are standalone devices, they work to send the traffic from the internet to whatever device requested it! They don't have "host computers" or any other controls..they work all by themselves.

Why do you want to go to the computer first?? All that will do is add a point of failure and point to slow the communications to other devices.

If you really want to do that, you can use two ethernet cards in the computer, bridge the connections within the operating system and then connect the router to the second card. (Not normally what you would do in this situation.)  If both ethernet cards are bridged it should allow the computer first then the router. (Be prepared for some interesting issues.)

  2. unplug the ethernet cable from your computer and plug it into the in spot on the router then run a cables from there to your 360 and computer
