Question:

Internet won't connect even via a direct connection...?

Just recently my modem was directly connected to my PC, and the internet was working fine. Then last night we'd set up a Broadband router. Even though the 2 other computers connected through the router are able to access the internet, the computer originally linked directly to the modem is having difficulty connecting. We have attempted to connect it directly once more, but to no avail. It's crossed our minds that maybe the problem is the wire itself, but when connected the modem verifies its connection (the light labeled "PC Link" flashes).

We are using an RCA digital-Broadband modem and a Linksys router.

  1. REVERSE THE PC PLUG INS TO THE ROUTER.IE.THE ORIGINAL PC INTO ANOTHER ROUTER PORT ETC.IF THAT DOESN'T WORK,INSERT THE LINKSYS ROUTER SETUP CD INTO THE ORIGINAL PC THAT WILL NOT CONNECT.ALSO,SEE IF THE NETWORK ADAPTER IS"ENABLED IN THE DEVICE MANAGER WINDOW.

  2. Go to the linksys site, look up your router.  Follow the simple directions setting up the router.  That should end your problems.

  3. Reset you connection defaults and then try it again.  It is posible that the defaults have changed and are crossed, I had this problem when we change over.  Also if you had it plugged in when you put the disc in it may never work with out cleaning out the whole program and start over. Read the instructions before putting the disc in the PC.

  4. are these xp or vista machines ?

my bet are they are XP and the winsock is stacked

try downloading this , put it on either a cd / 3.5 or thumb drive and run it on the machine that is having the issue
