  1. um, well my boyfriend had an internship at a record label.  basically he just did some research online first.  he looked up the record label he wanted to intern at, looked up the staff, found the direct line for one of them, and just called and plead his case as quickly as he could lol. that guy who said look desperate is right, lol. it sounds silly but he beat out all the other applicants.  generally, people who started out as interns are more sympathetic to people trying to get an internship. try to contact someone who worked their way up from the bottom for a better chance.

if you want to go the old fashion route, you can go to the label's website FAQ's.  They usually have information about where to send your resume for an internship there.

music industry internships are VERY competitive; there are a lot of people applying for only a few intern positions.  you want to find a way to make yourself stand out from the crowd of other candidates.  learn a lot of about the label beforehand, so they'll be able to see youre serious about the internship in your interview.

usually, they only give internships to matriculated college students. my boyfriend wasn't one and still got through, but he's a rare exception.  most labels are really strict about that rule so you might want to enroll in a music business program like NYU's.  they're known for getting their students great internships at major labels:

once you get the internship, network, network, and network some more.  make friends with ALL the staff and work hard. an internship is like the number 1 way into a job at a music label.  the more they like you, the more inclined they'll be to help you succeed. even if you dont get a job at the label, they can still help you connect with other artists and companies. if you fail to make them take notice of you, they won't care about what happens to you.
