can a non-assertive interpreter manage an interpreting situation effectively? Give reasons for your answer

  1. I would say yes.  An interpreter's job is to translate what was said so the other party can understand what was said and vice versa.  If they are being hired as an interpreter then there is good reason to believe that they are very fluent in that particular language and would be sure of themselves when they do the interpreting.  I would think they would be comfortable enough if they felt the situation was getting out of hand to advise both sides of such.


  2. By interpreter, I'm assuming that you mean, like, international languages and such.

    I'd say that, perhaps, a meek interpreter mught be able to do well, but everyone needs to have some level of assertiveness, esp with foreign people. So, I don't really think that person could excel unless they were able to step up and take charge.
