    -7 &lt; 4x − 3 ≤ 7

    -7 + 3 &lt; 4x ≤ 7 + 3

    -4 &lt; 4x ≤ 10

    -1 &lt; x ≤ 10/4 = 5/2

    Therefore, (-1, 5/2] is the answer.

    12. [-2, ∞)

    -4x − 2 &lt; 6 AND 3x ≥ -6

    -4x - 2 &lt; 6

    -4x - 2 + 2 &lt; 6 + 2

    -4x &lt; 8

    -4x/-4 &gt; 8/-4  (Division by a negative number requires we reverse the direction of the inequality sign.)

    x &gt; -2

    3x ≥ -6

    x ≥ -6/3
