I have an interview at head start next week. I was hoping someone that works there could let me know what they ask on the interview and some general information about the position. Also, how has your experience been with head start and what is it like teaching for them? I really want to get this job and want to do well on the interview.

Thank you

  1. Every interview is different based on the programs need.  I suggest you read up on legislation that fund Head Start.  Most importantly do Not refer to the children as "them".

  2. at they interview they might ask you for your education and obviously if you have previous experience working with children. If you have taken any courses in this field take a copy of your transcript with you (it does not have to be official)    working with children is really fun, it might be hard sometimes, but the rewards of seeing kids learn and grow are just priceless

  3. The Head Start program is a really cool program. I work as a Home Visitor for mine. The interview will depend on the person interviewing you.  Be yourself and aside from the obvious and usual resumé items, they may ask you what you would do in certain scenarios in the classroom. Try not to give down pat answers but include some flexibilty in your answers allowing for various situations. Also safety and health practices are very important and showing children respect. You might find some info on the www.nhsa.org website. Familiarize yourself with Head Start.  If they like you at the first interview and are interested you may be asked to return to be interviewed by the Human Resources Committee made up of parents and teachers.

    Good Luck! :)
