My university is having a night where business students can meet with firms and get information on internships/job opportunities. The dress is business interview and I'm not sure what is most appropriate for a woman interviewee.

Pants vs. Skirt

Short or long sleeve blouse

Jacket or no?

What color blouse?

Thanks, will give 10 pts for best answer.

  1. Skirt (makes a good feminine impression).

    Long sleeve button down.

    Jacket is a must.

    White or black blouse.

    Don't forget to wear heels.

  2. I was always told, and read in the "Dressed For Success" books in the 1980's,  that proper corporate attire for a woman was a suit with a skirt, preferably in a conservative color (no purple or fuchsia or bright orange, please -- play it safe and stick to navy, gray, maybe brown).  Something classic rather than overly trendy.  If you keep your jacket on -- which I was always advised to do -- it won't matter if your blouse is short or long-sleeved. You'll never go wrong with a white blouse but any color should be OK as long as it coordinates with the suit.  Shoes should be conservative pumps in a color to match the suit.

The idea is, I was told, to wear the feminine equivalent of what the men would be wearing.  If the men at your university will be wearing conservative suits and ties to these interviews, then the outfit I described will be perfectly appropriate.

  3. MAKE SURE TO WEAR A JACKET

I DONT KNOW WHY BUT I SAW IN A T.V. SHOW

THAT IF YOU WEAR A JACKET IT SHOWS PEOPLE THAT YOUR CONFIDENT AND IN CONTROL.WEAR A COLORED BLUSE BUT NOT A LOUD COLOR.AND I THINK YOU SHOULD WEAR PANTS AND A HEAL.OH AND LONG SLEEVED BLOUSE

  4. Wear a nice conservative suit; a jacket is a must for interviews it's your choice whether you want to wear a skirt or pants.  If you choose a skirt, make sure it's at least knee length...nothing that shows off too much thigh...your goal is to look professional not whorish.

Try a sleeveless shirt since jackets can get extremely warm.  Nothing low-cut or revealing.  The color of the blouse will depend on you.

Some cute yet comfortable heels/pumps...nothing too high because you'll be on your feet for a while.

My favorite interview outfit for college career fairs was my beige pant suit.  The jacket is tapered and the pants have a nice tailored look so it maintained a feminine, cute and conservative look. (Got it from Target.  My favorite store!!!)  I like beige and black suits because you can wear almost any color shirt under it and still look good.  Try to make sure that the color you choose is not too loud/bright...you want to look good and stand out, but you don't want to be remembered as the clown in the bright suit.  Make sure your hair is nice and neat.  And your make-up is light and neutral.

Also, don't focus so much on your looks that you forget to practice your interviewing skills.  Well before the fair takes place, sit down with a friend or go to your career services office and have someone rate your interviewing skills.  Also have someone look over your resume to make sure that it's well written and mistake free.  And don't forget to take plenty of resumes to the fair with you.  Hand them out to as many people as possible.  At the fair, don't stand in long lines. Most people have the tendency to go to the larger, more well known companies first and end up spending most of their time waiting to be seen.  Try the lesser known (not so popular) company first.  You'll have an opportunity to hand in your resume and actually talk with the recruiter which increases the chances of you actually getting a call for an interview.
