I have never been to Peru and my parents have been talking about going( as a family, group of 4,maybe 6) in the time of inti raymi. I don't know where to start and i'm wondering if it's to late start planning(inti rayme is in june). So i need to know....

- my parent are ages 65 & 71, how will they do on machu picchu?

- Is this a good time of year to go (June), is this too last min.?

- how much should i expect to spend on such a trip, how can i get the most for my money?

- Is a tour group a better way to go?

- do you think children would do ok on such a trip (ages 7 & 11)

this is all that i can think of right now but i will have more

also I speak spanish fluently so i'm asumming this would help in not getting hustled

  1. Hi, don´t worry, anybody may go to machu Picchu, doesn´t mind the age

Inti Raymi is very very nice, if you have the opotunity, you must go there

Maybe you can find better information in

    www.enjoyperu.com

    www.peru.info/perueng.asp

Good luck, you´re very welcome to Peru

  2. June is the best time of the year to go to Cuzco but it's also high season so you better get started. I estimate that US $ 600 per person wil be enough (only for Cuzco). Plane fares Lima-Cuzco are around $160, $100 for train to Macchu Picchu, entry to Macchu Picchu is $42 adults & $21 Children, food is cheap and hotels are at all kinds of rates, be sure to get bathroom, heater and hot water when it comes to low budget hotels. I recomend 5 days for the low budget Cuzco experience, you can do it in 4 but I always consider an extra day for any inconvenience.

Macchu Pichhu is between the high lands and the jungle, so it's no problem there. If you get High-sickness it would probably happen in Cuzco or Pisac, but they have a pill that works great for everyone (even the children), you can get it in any drug store, it's called SOROCHIPIL, take one first thing in the morning and maybe another one if you need it.  Even so, It's normal to feel strange everytime you go upstairs or uphill.

If you want to take the most of your money, stay some more days and spend a night at AGUAS CALIENTES, it's a small town 10 min before arriving to Macchu Picchu there's a thermal water swimming pool where you can go at night, many restaurants and hotels and the chance to go to Macchu Picchu first thing in the morning before the greater party arrives from Cuzco at 10 am (you leave from Cuzco at 6am and arrive 3 1/2 hours later. You have 2 alternatives: Option 1.- Go from C-MP arrive at 10:30am, visit the ruins and return at 5pm getting to cuzco at night. Option 2.- Go from C-MP and then stay the night at Aguas Calientes (train will cost $9 from MP to AC) so you get a second visit at the ruins (calculate paying 2 entries per person) but this way you'll have more time if you want to climb the Wayna Picchu Mountain buses go from AC to MP every 10 minutes from 5:30 am and costs $12 adults $6 children.

Tour groups make the trip less stressing and what you really want is to spend a great time!

    Good Luck!

  3. Machu Picchu for the family wont be a challenge for your family.  My inlaws 72/67 just went there with no issues.

The kids might be a bit young for the who peru experience..

but if you take themit shouldnt pose a problem

look at sunriseperu.com for some tours...

do the sacred valley your and cusco city tour too.

we stayed at hotel prisma there.. not too expensive.. close to main square..

to save a few bucks eat at places a couple of blocks off the square.. or go to the Mega grocery store and pick up some food.

june is a good time.. go for it

  4. June 24 is busy every year but Peru is an amazing and spiritual destination for all ages.  There might not be availability, but I work for an adventure tour operator and would be happy to see what I can find.  We only use 4 and 5* properties, so if you are looking to go budget I can't help.  We do privately guided customized tours to give you the most for your time and money.  Please have a look at our website and feel free to contact me.
