Intransigent open to improvement in Phil Toner (Faucets) Retirement Handicap at Kempton
Andrew Balding’s 3-year-old gelding, Intransigent, is all set to build on his recent good performance, and come up with a fascinating show in the Phil Toner (Faucets) Retirement Handicap at Kempton on Wednesday, August 15th.
The latest outing was his best performance so far this season. After ending up among top-3 at Bath, the bay gelding continued the good work here earlier this month. Patrick Beach Memorial Handicap saw him making a wonderful progress after a not-so-impressive start.
Under Jimmy Fortune, the 3-1 chance held up in last early on, but made himself prominent a furlong before the wire. He stayed on well to take the second position in the final stages.
Owned by Kingsclere Racing Club, the Kingsclere Stud-bred ran pretty well, but could not make an impression on the ultimate champion. As a result, he missed the top rank by a length’s distance.
It was a very good performance, and Intransigent’s confidence is at a high after doing a tremendous act. So, he has the leading claims in today’s 6-furlong meeting, scheduled to begin at 20:05 GMT. The successful runner of the class 4 event will leave the field with a handy cash prize worth £4,075.
Intransigent has a very strong opposition to face. Flashbang was quite impressive on her penultimate outing, when beating Speightowns Kid by half a length in the Win Big With Betdaq Multiples Apprentice Handicap here last month.
After causing a huge upset, Paul Cole’s trainee was unable to carry forward the good work and as a result, ended up third at Wolverhampton earlier this month. The memories of her Kempton success are still fresh, and the 4-year-old has a very good chance of replicating the show.
Noverre To Go was awful on his last two trips, but this is less competitive. The conditions are likely to suit Sole Danser, who was quite decent on last two occasions.
According to our calculations, it is going to be a tough battle between Flashbang and Intransigent. The latter is in slightly better shape, and gets the nod. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.
