  1. As Laurie told you the usual mistake is to visit Paris only.

Paris is fantastic, it's still the most visited city in the world BUT the countryside is fabulous too. People are more relax and landscapes are amazing.

Places that I'd suggest (though I know you won't be able to visit them all) :

    - Mont St-Michel

    - Alsace

    - Bordeaux and the wine region

    - The Riviera

    - Provence (especially Aix and Avignon)

    - Savoie (Annecy, Léman Lake and Mont-Blanc)

    - Corsica

    - Lyon

    - Biarritz

My favorite parts are the Riviera, Provence and the Savoie for the landscapes.

  2. Well, France is very obviously known for its food, though don't feel like you have to try frogs'legs or snails, I am french and I have never tried either (too gross!) you should try goat cheese though, as well as numerous other wonderful french cheese. France has some amazing architecture. Paris really is as romantic and beautiful as people say, Notre Dame was renovated a few years ago and looks even more beautiful than ever, and then of course Versailles, Montmartre, the Eiffel Tower, Le Louvre... But Americans often make the mistake of not seeing anything but Paris. France has some very varied sceneries, Bretagne (Brittany) looks a lot like Ireland or Wales and indeed shares a Celtic culture, le Mont St Michel is a beautiful old abbaye that is on some sort of island only accessible at low tide, it's absolutely beautiful. You can surf on the Atlantic ocean, you can dive in the Mediterranean and get a look at all the stars in St Tropez, you can go hiking in the Pyrenees, you can go visit the Chateaux de la Loire, or take walks throughout the lavender fields of Provence... And I'm forgetting many other things... My point is everything is there, in that small country you can find all sorts of beautiful things and modernity at the same time.

  3. I'm french too and I couldn't say better than Laurie!
