Introducing Jerry Dipoto, the new GM of the Los Angeles Angels
Jerry Dipoto was known for a lot of things in 2011. Not only was he the Arizona Diamondbacks’ scouting director but his focus on his job provided the club with the National League West title. In a surprising season where many experts could not have predicted
the team to do so much, Dipoto was one of the wheels that spun the club to glory. On Saturday, October 29, Los Angeles Angels declared that they have signed Dipoto on as their new General Manager.
The news comes from Anaheim and it marks a new age for the Angels, who have missed their chances to go on top of the American League West division. Failing to topple the Texas Rangers in the last two seasons, the club is looking for innovation to pave for
success. Fortunately, Dipoto will not shy away from his cognitive approach.
"Most of all, we're going to have passion," Dipoto said. "I love what I do, with good baseball people.
"I can't tell you how honored I am to join an organization with such championship-level people [who] have experienced the kind of success they've had. Championships are what it's about."
The new General Manager will be looking to do a lot for the team as it already has a star studded cast to churn the mould. His influence could come in handy for the development of new players and the signing of fresh talent. The 43-year-old has already told
the press that he plans to utilize his influence in the Asian and the Latin American markets.
Apart from the normal discourse in approach, the former Arizona man hopes to do wonders with manager Mike Scioscia, who was reportedly going to give the new man a hard time. Both individuals will do a lot together and there is optimism amongst the top management.
"The way a manager and general manager should work together is a collaborative effort," Dipoto said. "It's true in life but especially in baseball. That's the most important relationship in an organization. The product we're putting out there runs through
Mike Scioscia."
There is little to predict at this time but if Dipoto brings change to the table, the Rangers will have a hard time in 2012, maintaining their title.
