i wanted to get him a friend so they could play together, but my mum said not now... maybe next year..

i was thinking if my kitten by then would still have that drive of kitten play... like play fightin and all that???

and if i get another 1 next year how old should it be??? Also female or male??

  1. Speaking from experience, some cats will behave kittenishly for as long as two years- and you might want your older kitty to have some time to calm down a bit too because he might not be aware of his own strength.

If both kitties are fixed, the gender won't matter: I had a male cat who was actually a very good 'daddy' for a female kitten who had lost her mother and siblings. But you might want to make the new cat younger than the one you have now.

    Good luck!

  2. Being kittens has nothing to do with it. I have two cats, one male and one female from the same litter. When they were born, the male was the runt. The female was born much bigger. They were the best of friends until one year old and then the male started attacking the female. The male grew to be over twice the female's size so the situation was dangerous. You might want to wait until your kitten is fully grown and then get a male cat that's the same size so that when they fight (and they will fight) neither one can seriously hurt the other.

    Just my two cents.

  3. I wouldn't wait a year, your cat will get used to being sole king of his castle. Get a kitten who's a little older so she'll be big enough to wrestle with him. Pay ALL KINDS of attention to your now cat so he doesn't think he's being replaced. Spend lots  of time with him. The kitten will get over it.

s*x doesn't matter as much as personality. PLEASE adopt from a shelter! 6,000,000 cats met their death last year in shelters. Please spay and neuter. DON'T declaw- too cruel.

You sound like a good, caring Mama, I'm sure you'll do fine. I have  boys and girls, and they all get along fine.

  4. it would be easiest to get another one now.  kittens are more adaptive than adult cats.

also, first get your cat fixed - so he does not start marking his territory.  he's old enough to do that.  also, he's less likely to run away if he was neutered early.

get him a female companion (also, get her spayed...).  male cats sometimes do better with female companions (not always, but often).  don't worry about the age so much as the temperament.  if your cat is more laid back, don't get one that wants to play all the time and drive him nuts.  if your cat likes to play, get one that also likes to play.

Really, it would be easier to get another one now......

    still, get them FIXED!!!!!

  5. It shouldnt be male 1 thing because they would attack each other for teratory i have 4 cats

2 4year old twins and 2 kittens i only have one male and thats working out fine at first they might play fight but once they get to know each other they will do fine. All my cats play fight and fight probly with other cats on the street.

But wait unitl the kitten has shown some signs on maturatey then he will be able to cope with another cat in the house

  6. I'd get one while the kitten is still a kitten, better chance of them bonding and getting along,as kitten are not territorial. Male or female shouldnt matter if their spayed.  But 2 kittens are twice as expensive.  The cat will still be young enough next year to get along with a new kitten.

  7. I Just Went Through The SAME thing!!!

my loving baby, Chunky butt, i had her since she was 3 weeks, bottle fed,and everything. shes 3 years old now.

I just rescued a small kitten and had to take her home. man, was chunky mad!! she would not talk to me, sit by me, she even made it a point to walk the longest way around me , id see her, and she would hiss at me. i was so sad. and the kitten only wanted to play with her, every time chunky would hiss at her too.

Now its 2 months later, and they are the best of friends. Chunky was so alpha to anyone and everything, i was so afraid i could not home this kitten, but i was able to just let them be alone. i did not go and find Chunky when she was mad, nor did i get between the two.

I like female cats, so both of mine are. Males don't have as much notion to want to rub you you all the time, and i love mine to cuddle me till i suffocate!! j/p- either way -

I think that however long you wait, get a kitten to introduce it to the family. the younger it is, the easier it will be on both, the kitten because it has never established being alpha, and will agree to the dominate member far easier. the adult because you are bringing a submissive animal into the house, being non-threatened in status will greatly improve your chances!!!!

good luck, and love them both, your cat is never to old to play. giver her some cat-nip, and have at it.

Chunky butt favors the Lazar pointer...
