The two horses have been together for about 10 years and were the only ones there, we are going to get them and i was wondering how to introduce them to the mini. Their owner told us that one time the gelding chased a smaller pony around the feild, do you think that with enough time the 2 larger ones will get along with my mini? I was also worried about the gelding since ive heard stories of them attacking mares. Please help me.

  1. Put the mini out in his own area for a while, but where the other horses can get a good look at him.  The big horses might actually be scared of the mini.  Some horses are a bit freaked out by small ponies and minis.  When you eventually do put them together there will probably be a little chasing around, but they will establish the pecking order pretty quickly then will all get along.

  2. First put the mini in a round pen or somewhere apart but beside the two other horses then after a like two months put one of the horses in with the mini. Then when they get used to each other put them in with the other horse. Watch them and if they get to rough seperate them and try it again later.

  3. I never put a new horse right with another...What i do is put the newbie in a pen close to then i will go sit under a tree and watch.  I leave them separate till i feel its time to chance it...With the mini and those bigger horses, things can go bad fast.

  4. Put them in a field with a separator between the mini and the two horses so they can get to know each other, but not hurt eachother. You could also stable them next to each other so they can get to know each other. If the two horses have a nice temprament, once they know the mini they should be fine to turn out together. Just don't turn them out together straight away because they will be wary of each other if they have never met.

Also let the two horses settle in to their new environment before you turn them out together so they are not stressed.
