Question:

Introduction: Rabbit to Rabbit?

I have a male, neutered, 1 and a half yr old house rabbit and i have recently bought a female 8 week rabbit home for him to have some company.

The first introduction yesterday was done in the Kitchen as i felt this was neutral territory as the Male does not go in the kitchen. When he met her he seemed fine he smelt her rear end and checked her out. Then this morning i tryed her out with him in the lounge which he lives in and he went mad! He growled and tryed to attack my feet, today he has gone to her cage licked her and then an hour later growled at her.

Please help Eric and Lilly to be a happy couple!!

  1. Male rabbits are very territorial so introducing a new rabbit can be difficult. Your male rabbit lives in the lounge so he won't like a new rabbit living there too. You might need to move him into different room to live with Lilly (somewhere neutral) but don't be surprised if it takes a long time because Eric is used to being on his own but Lilly will want to make friends. It will take time for Eric to like Lilly but he should do eventually. The problem is he may never accept her especially if she is living in "his space". Hope this helps!

  2. dont worry if they fight at first, just split them up and try again later. My rabbits were exactly the same but after about a month of 'meetings' one rabbit put its head down and the other one licked it, and they have been together for about 2 years now. So just keep trying them together and eventually they will get on well woth each other. Also i would suggest getting the female spayed once she is old enough, as it will stop her getting cancer. Most females over 5 will get it if they arent. Good Luck :)

  3. Don't worry, they will probably fight a bit at first, you should get them to meet gradually and try not to let them meet where your male rabbit lives. Get the to meet in 'neutral' places like you did at first and soon they will become friends.
