Do some searching on your own.  It depends on if you need to absorb impact once or repeatedly.  Can it be powered?  The easiest is a one time use thing, a lot of soft stuff that disipates the energy slowly enough to protect the impactor or the impactee.  Shock absorbers (pneumatic or hydraulic) are available in a wide variety of sizes and energy aborption capacity.  More sophisticated technology is available using electromechanical systems.  It really gets down to exactly what you are trying to do, how much energy are you dealing with, how much decceleration/acceleration can the item withstand?  good luck
