I just became a permanent resident and got my social security on June 12th. I've been getting a invalid SSN message everytime I use my social security for anything.... I tried tor egister online with selective service and it said that my number was invalid and it didnt appear in the database, I tried updating my bright futures scholarship application with my socials ecurity number and it says theres an Error SSN invalid and its not on database. I just applied for a job at sports authority and got a letter back from GIS Employment background reporting saying Invalid SSN... "Social Security x*x-XX-XXXX" is invalid according to the most recent SSA information release, however, the group as been indetified for "Florida" and may be included in future monthly SSA updates.

I called Social security today and the lady didnt help out at all and just said my info on their screeen looks fine.

So anybody had this problem before?? how long until my Social finally appears on these databases???

  1. it can take a while for ss to update everyone elses system.  your problems should be over by 8-1-08

  2. It can take from six months to a year for all databases to be updated. But, on a side note, you do know that your only REQUIRED BY LAW to get a SSN if you are a resident of DC and that the Privacy Act of 1974 makes it unlawful for a governmental agency to deny a right, benefit, or privilege merely because the individual refuses to disclose his SSN. Section 7 of the Privacy Act further provides that any agency requesting an individual to disclose their SSN must "inform that individual whether that disclosure is mandatory or voluntary, by what statutory authority such number is solicited, and what uses will be made of it." At the time of its enactment, Congress recognized the dangers of widespread use of SSNs as universal identifiers. In its report supporting the adoption of this provision, the Senate Committee stated that the widespread use of SSNs as universal identifiers in the public and private sectors is "one of the most serious manifestations of privacy concerns in the Nation." Short of prohibiting the use of the SSN outright, the provision in the Privacy Act attempts to limit the use of the number to only those purposes where there is clear legal authority to collect the SSN. It was hoped that citizens, fully informed where the disclosure was not required by law and facing no loss of opportunity in failing to provide the SSN, would be unlikely to provide an SSN and institutions would not pursue the SSN as a form of identification.

  3. It should show up within the next few weeks.

Be patient.  And in a couple months, you should be able to register for selective service.
