  1. fractured sesamoid, the same one he injured as a 2 year old...unfortunate as Invasor looked like a pretty nice champion who ran like a train off the pace to win at a number of tracks (unlike some horses who cant win outside of calif...or on tracks with different biases) the oil man sheiq hamdan snapped up the son of famous sire Candy Stripes (out of Blushing Groom, outside purchased him for 1.4 million and shipped him from Uruguay)and he returned on investment right away by becoming the worlds premier older handicap horse winning all the big races up to the breeders cup classic, then beating a good field in dubai in the spring... I believe he will be bred to a  number of good mares soon as he is well...

  2. Yes,it's true.It is career ending but Thank God it is not life threatening.I have felt sad since I read about it. Too many horses are getting hurt and retiring early.I love to see the older horses keep racing.I feel bad about "Invasor" but I am glad he is ok.

  3. yes, we have to find a new horse of the year, it's wide open, lava man is good, but can't win outside of California.

  4. Unfortunately it's true, the only good thing is it wasn't a life threatening injury! Here is a link to the story itself: http://www.bloodhorse.com/articleindex/a...

And here is a link to a great commentary on Invasor himself: http://www.bloodhorse.com/articleindex/a...

I enjoyed reading Haskins story alot. For people who don't know much about horses other than seeing them run around the track, this gave an insight into THE HORSE.  He was quite a character!

  5. Yes unfortunately it is true! He was retired June 23 after a workout. You can read about it here: http://www.ntra.com/content.aspx?type=ne...

You can read his bio and race stats here:

  6. Yes, Invasor suffered a fracture after a workout.  He finished the workout okay, but after he cooled out he came up lame, and so the vets were called in.  X-rays revealed a fracture at the top of the sesamoid bone.  http://www.bloodhorse.com/articleindex/a...

Since surgery isn't contemplated, and the horse wasn't apparently lame until after he cooled out, I'm guessing that it was just a crack, a non-displaced fracture and not a chip.  This is the kind of injury that a horse can come back from if he's allowed time to heal, but he would have had to be out of action for several months and then would have to leg-up back to racing condition, which would have put any return to the races next year at the earliest.

The Shadwell people elected to retire him because he really has nothing left to prove on the racetrack.  He was horse of the year last year, he won the Dubai World Cup in his last start, he's shown the whole world what kind of champion he is.

He ought to be a hot property at stud.  He's by Candy Stripes, a son of Blushing Groom out of a Lyphard mare.  Candy Stripes is also sire of Leroidesanimaux, an Eclipse Award winner on the turf here in the US.  His dam, Quendom, is completely free of Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector blood.  Invasor is a complete outcross for anything with Mr. Prospector in the pedigree, which means that at least on paper he's attractive for an awful lot of top-quality mares with Mr. Prospector bloodlines.  He has Northern Dancer in the 4th remove of his pedigree, which is far enough back to not be of great concern to people who have mares with Northern Dancer bloodlines.

It's too late to stand him to northern hemisphere time this year, but he could be ready to stand in the southern hemisphere if Shadwell wants to do that.  Given that his sire died of colic in Argentine, where he was leading sire in 2000, in February of this year, I would bet that there are many South American studs that would pay almost any price to get Invasor to shuttle there.

It's a loss to racing, but it gives us little Invasors to look forward to.  I expect he'll make a dynamite sire.
