Inverarity backs Hussey to come good against South Africa – Cricket News Update
Australia’s national selection panel head, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
The left-hander has been an indispensible member of the Aussie national side since making his debut in 2005, mainly due to his ability to win matches on his own. Now at the wrong side of his career, Hussey knows the significance of a bad series during a
time when the Australians are seeking stability following some embarrassing lows in 2010 and 2011.
Despite remaining a pivotal figure, his stats against South Africa hardly depicts his batting prowess. In 8 matches, the player has scored 449 runs at a mediocre average of 32.07, and has yet to hit a ton, with 89 being his best score. That remains considerably
less than his career average, which stands at an impressive 50.07.
In the previous series played between the two heavyweights, Hussey averaged just 15, which included a diabolic performance in the opening Test where his team were routed on 47. With Proteas in fine Test form, following their triumph over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 recently,
the veteran batsman knows that he cannot dwell on the past and stressed on the importance of performing in the middle.
“There's no point in worrying or stressing about anything that's happened in the past, because there's enough things to worry and stress about when you're out in the middle in a Test match anyway,” he said.
He further found support from Inverarity, who related Hussey’s case with Aussie pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204. The fast bowler was criticised for his one-dimensional bowling during the Ashes rollicking two summers ago but returned back swiftly over the past 12 months.
Since then, he has become the mainstay of the Test bowling lineup, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PM-Siddle-c2197.
"Last year when [the selection panel] were contemplating the first Test team against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at the Boxing Day Test, we were discussing Ben Hilfenhaus, and a couple amongst us said Ben Hilfenhaus' record at the MCG is not at all good," Inverarity said this
week. "Then one amongst us said 'well he's due to take wickets' and he got five. So I would say against the South Africans, Michael Hussey who is a very fine batsman, is due to make some runs."
The first Test takes place at Brisbane, from November 9.
