Inverarity satisfied with Test top six – Cricket News Update
Ahead of the upcoming Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-John-Inverarity-c85980, the Australian selector, was satisfied with the batting depth at the team’s disposal and further praised the coming of age of Usman Khawaja and Phil Hughes.
While the limited-over side has come under scrutiny in recent times, the form of the Test squad has been relatively constant since Michael Clarke took over the captaincy on a permanent basis last year.
The team went on to defeat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 by a 4-0 margin at home. The Kangaroos then travelled to the Caribbean and outplayed their opponents in two of the three
Tests, ending the season without any defeat.
Their impressive run has been attributed to a settle top six, which includes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 - a few missed games owning to injury and personal reasons but will be available for the battles
against the Proteas.
"As http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 said, there were five batsmen contracted and we have won six of the last seven Tests with the same batting line-up."
Inverarity was further impressed with the recent performances of ex http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 following their poor outings last year with the national side. Both were earmarked as permanent replacements in the top order but failed
to cement a place in the Test team.
Hughes made a sparkling debut against South Africa but his form faded away after that and a poor showing in his last Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Martin-c1295 on all four occasions, ultimately resulted in him being omitted from
the team.
However, a fruitful stint with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 in the English county circuit has again put him back in the frame. As for Khawaja, he also struggled for form last year but a switch to Derbyshire has seen him performing back to his best.
"In a sense the gate is open for those who perform to come in to contention. Other players are now coming into contention, Usman Khawaja has played well and Phil Hughes has made runs," Inverarity said.
The Test series begins at Brisbane on November 9.
