I am 23 weeks pregnant and have got Polycystic Ovary. I have inverted nipples and am worried about breast feeding. I would love to breastfeed if I can. My b*****s have not changed since getting pregnant.

  1. Sometimes the b*****s won't grow until you are further along. You can still breastfeed! I have inverted nipples, too. It's not impossible, but it does make it more interesting, for sure. lol    What I did to help out was use a nipple shield or guard...can't remember which it was. lol  But, it's this plastic thing you put over your nipple and aerola, and the baby will suck on that, it will help to pull the nipple. Also, using a breast pump for about 5 or 10 minutes before nursing will help pull them out, making it less frustrating for you and baby! Don't worry, it's not something that must be done every time..over time, the nipple will "come out" easier (after the baby has been nursing for about a week. GL!!

Oh, also want to add that don't let your b*****s get too full of milk when you try to nurse...that is, when they "let down", they tend to feel overstuffed, if you will. This will make it hard for the baby to latch on properly. If this does happen, pump for a few minutes before the baby nurses. That way there is less pressure on the nipple area, making it easier for the baby to grab onto. Breastfeeding can be a bit challenging at first, but it so worth it and it does get easier! =)

  2. They do have nipple shields and other things to help you.  Your b*****s might still change, you still have time.  But see if your hospital has a lactation specialist, and talk to her.  She would have all the best and new things to help you.  And any suggestions.

  3. go to Medela.com.  they sell nippleshells that you can start wearing during pregnancy under your bra for inverted nipples.  also, if these don't help they also have the nipple shields that you use while breastfeeding.  I used them both, and they really did help because I also have inverted nipples.  Hope this helps.

  4. They have thses things called nipple cones/shields. Its like a plastic shield you wear when you're pregnant to help your nipples get ready for breast feeding. good luck! breast feeding is a great choice!

  5. Women with inverted nipples may find that their nipples protract (come out) temporarily or permanently during pregnancy, or as a result of breastfeeding. Most women with inverted nipples who give birth are able to breastfeed without complication, but inexperienced mothers may experience higher than average pain and soreness when initially attempting to nurse. When a mother uses proper breastfeeding technique, the infant latches onto the areola, not the nipple, so women with inverted nipples are actually able to breastfeed without issue. An infant that latches on well may be able to slush out an inverted nipple. The use of a breast pump or other suction device immediately before a feeding may help to draw out inverted nipples. A hospital grade electric pump may be used for this purpose. Some women also find that using a nipple shield can help facilitate breastfeeding.

I use to think mine were inverted i had asked the doctor and he told me they werent. He said if they were i could still breastfeed just i would have to use the nipple shield if they didnt decide to come out when i started to breastfeed.
