You mean bicycles?  Or motor-bikes?

The problem we face is the suburbanization and de-centralization we've been doing since WWII.  Most people live in places where they can't really get anywhere on a bicycle.  Work and shopping, even the supermarket, is several miles away.  I don't think bicycles are the answer.

We might see a new generation of motor-scooters and small, efficient 3-wheeled vehicles for commuting and other 'personal' transportation.  We are already seeing a revolution in scooters, with larger engines making them suitable for longer distances at higher speeds.  There have been other 'experiments' like the BMW C1 and the Corbin Sparrow that might well be the shape of things to come.

But I think the biggest change will have to be public transportation.  That's the thing to invest in, except it will probably have to be public investment.
