Investec South African Women play a draw against Scotland in Champions Challenge
The Investec South Africa women’s hockey team eventually succeeded to draw their match against Scotland in the FIH Champions Challenge tournament which is being played at University College Dublin (UCD), in Dublin, Ireland. It was a double
strike in the second half that led them towards the draw at the score of 2-2.
It was quite a contrasting performance by each side during the entire match, where Scotland clearly dominated in the first half, while the Investec South Africa team controlled the second half unlike the first one. As far as the score-board is concerned,
same is the case for both of the sides as Scotland scored their two goals of the match in the first half, while the South Africans delivered their double strike in later part of the game, overall a interesting game to watch.
The match started with a better show by the Scottish side as they created some early chances and just in the seventh minute they came quite close in scoring the opening goal, but was beautifully saved by the South Africans. However they scored the first
goal of the match in the 29th minute, when Louise Baxter did not make any mistake in putting the ball into the South African net. Within six minutes, the Scottish women once again delivered their efforts when Nikki Kidd scored their second of the
match by a powerful low drag flick in the 35th minute. The first half ended at 2-0 to Scotland.
However, the second half tells the opposite story of the first half as the Investec South African women were on the show during whole the time in the second half. South Africa maintained the pressure from the start of the second half and succeeded in scoring
their first goal of the match in the 52nd minute on a penalty-corner, the scorer was Pietie Coetzee, who is just now only three goals behind to break the world record of 220 goals. Seven minutes after the first goal the Africans scored the equaliser
in the 59th minute when Illse Davids converted another penalty-corner into a goal which lasted until the end.
