Investigations in Cricket South Africa corruption scam delayed
The proposed and scheduled investigations into Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s embezzlement scam have been further delayed due to the prevailing disagreement among the board officials.
The issue of appointment of independent auditors has caused the delay. The inquiry was called for by the board President, Mtutuzeli Nyoka.
The CSA has allegations of mismanagement and irregularities in the funds and bonuses that the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) granted to its South African counterpart for hosting the Indian Premier League’s second season in 2009.
The second edition of the league was played in South Africa due to security concerns as India had been rocked by the Mumabi attacks of 26/11.
For successfully hosting the tournament, the BCCI gave huge funds to the CSA. The CSA Chief Executive, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mongezi-Gerald-Majola-c77649, was at the helm of all affairs at that time.
A few months back, it was pointed out by Nyoka that the funds were embezzled and Majola was responsible.
These allegations provoked Majola to terminate the president in his absence. Nyoka challenged his dismissal in court which decreed to restore him and start investigations into the matter.
The inquiry was set to be initiated by May 7 but the board members are still diverged on the issue of appointing auditors.
One of the board members, Ishmael Semenya, said, “There have been objections about whether certain companies would be appropriate for the task.”
However, Nyoka repudiated any differences by saying, “There are just a few things that need to get sorted out.”
He termed them as minor issues and expressed hope that the audit process would start soon.
Majola has tried a lot to resolve the issue with mutual understanding but Nyoka is insistent to know how and where the R86.4 million, paid by the IPL organizers, were used.
Apart from Nyoka’s pressure, the South African tax authorities are looking to launch an inquiry into CSA’s financial affairs.
In this bleak situation, the national cricket team is suffering. The Proteas are set to play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at their home grounds latter this summer but they are still without a captain and coach. Moreover, their lackluster World Cup campaign has stripped off
their sponsors and supporters.
