Hey guys

So im still in highschool but I want to be a print journalist. I'd love to get into investigative, but I don't want to limit myself to just that. News and features is cool too. So when I go to get my degree, are there certain kinds that will limit you in career opportunities?

  1. You must be well experienced in hard news and news feature writing before editors will consider assigning you to an investigative piece.

Think about it.....investigations are hard news, but also complicated and require the reporter to be a storyteller well experienced in feature writing.  And most investigative reports are broken as a series (usually four to five installments) with sidebars because these situations are complicated.

Use Google to look at some of the investigative work by Carl Prine or Jules Bergman to see examples of storytelling by investigative reporters.

    Hope this answer helps you.
