Investment fraud: Pittsburgh Steelers LB Larry Foote gets compensation thru court – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Larry Foote has got compensated through a court of law for a financial scam that ripped him off nearly half a million dollar, as per reports emerged in some sections of media.
A judge in Wayne County Circuit Court has awarded $1.2 million in compensation in judgement of a lawsuit that the player had filed claiming that he had been plundered of $400,000 in bogus valet contracts in the Detroit areas shopping malls.
His attorney Jim Acho told the court that his client Foote had invested more than $400K with a couple of persons in the valet scheme, which turned out to be bogus one as no contracts were signed by the alleged/accused parties.
The accused men told Foote that they had parking contracts in Somerset Collection in Troy and Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi. Mich. The attorney said in reality there were no such deals and it was just scam that deprived his client of hard-earned money.
Judge Lita Popke in a default judgement entered against the men, awarding more than one million dollars in compensation to Foote. The financial damages can be tripled under the Michigan law, so he was awarded almost two times more than his investment. The
accused men never responded to the court in the lawsuit.
It is another fraud case that has made a football player a subject of plundering. The player’s attorney said that his client was very conservative with his money and had made the investment after some assurances from the alleged parties.
Since the accused men have never responded to the claims in the lawsuit the lawyer said it would be very tough for them to collect the judgement. It nevertheless has resolved the immediate worries of the player who had rued his decision of falling into wrong
hands in the course of a genuine investment.
After the judgement, the player himself has not commented anything on the verdict and has not given details on the case. His attorney however appeared to be satisfied with the court order of compensation to his client.
None of the parties have given timeline of the incident so it remains unclear when the player had committed the amount of investment.
