Question:

Invisibility?

Is there a way, if it was possible to be invisible, to be able to see while invisible? Because, If you are invisible, light is either not hitting you or going completely through you...so no light hits your eyes so you would not be able to see, right? If light were to hit your eyes then people would be able to see your eyes... Hmm, maybe if you built some sort of elaborate light bending contraption....

Your thoughts? (Please only serious answers)

  1. no i don't believe so.... the only plausible way i've ever heard of obtaining invisibility would be to bend light around you...

if you could see it would mean your eyes were absorbing light, and if your eyes were absorbing light, obviously it's not being bent around them and you're no longer hidden.

well of course if you get a camera outside you'll be able to see.... but how is that really practical? unless you were using some sort of stationary camera's... people would wonder why there was a camera just floating around.

  2. You're almost there.  There are military applications where "invisibility" is being studied.  These include "simulating" light passing through an object.

Imagine if you have a movie screen that has a picture being projected upon it of what is on the other side of the screen.  Now imagine a cube of such screens, each projecting the image from the oppossite side of the cube.  In this simple example, from each direction outside the cube (top, bottom, and four sides), the view is such that the cube doesn't appear to be there.  Sensors and cameras likewise can provide a view of outside the "invisible" area.

  3. none of this is possible because we reflect, absorb, and emit emr all of the time

  4. I imagine the way to go would be to have a camera seperate from what was being made invisible, and have the camera images sent to you via radiowaves, or some other non-light frequency.
