Invited for a weekend getaway

Question

My husband and I were invited by friends to stay in their guest house for a weekend getaway. My husband and I agreed that we are taking them out to dinner that night as a way to show our appreciation for the invite and place to stay. Is this acceptable? Should I bring something when we arrive? These are fairly new friends, so I don't know what is acceptable or not. Of course I was going to follow up with a thank you note after returning from our trip. Any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

paying for dinner is a great idea.  Bring a bottle of wine for the house and you are all set..../
